Session Description

Public engagement is evolving rapidly for transportation agencies and it is more important than ever to monitor the state of the practice. In response, a team of practitioners and researchers teamed up with TRB, AASHTO, AMPO, APTA, NADO and NARC to conducting a large-scale peer-to-peer process to develop the first annual State of the Practice (SOTP) Report for public engagement in transportation agencies in the United States. Input was collected from over 400 agency representatives on public engagement staffing, processes, tools, successes, challenges and predictions for the future. This session will highlight the research process, key findings and explore solutions to key tensions raised by agencies during the study.

Please note that the engagement activities in the DISCUSSION tab of this page will remain live until Friday, January 19th. We ask that you add your ideas, "likes" and comments before then so they can be summarized in the State of the Practice Report.
